About the Wineyard
Château Clauzet, a discreet gem of Saint-Estèphe, delivers an impressively successful 2017 vintage.
Owned by the Cardon family since 2018, the estate joined the Château La Haye adventure in a shared spirit of passion and precision winemaking.
The duo of Lloyd Lippens and Chris Cardon follows a clear vision: crafting wines that are expressive, demanding, and deeply rooted in terroir — without ever losing their soul.
And because nothing replaces true talent, Éric Boissenot, the Médoc’s renowned oenologist, continues to lend his expertise to ensure quality vintage after vintage.
Terroir & Climate
The Château Clauzet vineyard stretches across 28 hectares of vines with an average age of 45 years.
Planted on deep gravel soils, the selected parcels offer ideal ripening conditions for the grapes.
All this under a sustainable farming approach, certified under the label HVE (High Environmental Value).
Winemaking & Ageing
This cuvée is made mainly from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a touch of Cabernet Franc, giving it beautiful structure and length.
- Temperature-controlled vinification in stainless steel tanks
- Precise pump-overs to extract color and aromas gently
- Aged 12 to 18 months in barrels, 46% of which are new — just enough oak to elevate, never overwhelm
Tasting Notes
On the nose, you'll find ripe black fruits in abundance — blackcurrant, black cherry — layered with subtle hints of leather, spice, and a touch of licorice on the finish.
On the palate, it delivers the classic Saint-Estèphe structure, with elegant body, fine tannins, and a welcome freshness — time has softened the edges beautifully.
Why Choose This Cuvée?
- A top-notch Saint-Estèphe with killer value for money
- The perfect balance of power and finesse — ideal for newcomers and seasoned wine lovers alike
- From a prestigious Médoc terroir, without the flashy price tag 🇫🇷
- Complex, expressive aromas you’ll want to keep sniffing
- A dream pairing with red meats, game, or aged cheeses 🥩
Serving Tips
- Serving temperature: 17–18°C (decant it for an hour if you can, it deserves the airtime)
- Perfect pairings: grilled ribeye, duck breast, lamb tagine, aged Comté, or even a good ripe Camembert
- Cellaring potential: drinking beautifully now, but feel free to lay it down another 5 to 7 years — it’s still got stories to tell
